From curious children to seasoned museum enthusiasts, adventurers of all ages love to know what goes on behind-the-scenes at their favorite museums. As Executive Producer of Museum Access, I have the unique opportunity to speak with curators, archivists, directors, and many professionals that work in America’s great museums and I love hearing about their sometimes winding career paths. I felt that I could not be the only one that was curious about their stories. It is this curiosity that sparked the idea for Museum Access Profiles, a series of webisodes available on our Vimeo and Youtube channels. Museum Access Profiles consists of interviews with those people working both in front of and behind-the-scenes at some of America’s top museums, sharing their journeys. Their stories are inspiring and sometimes surprising. A few of our favorite interviews are highlighted below.

Meet Leah Valerio, Curator at The Wild Center Nature Museum, Tupper Lake, NY

Speaking with Leah was a joy because like myself, she has always had a passion for learning and she’s an avid animal lover too. As a curator at the Wild Center Nature Museum in the Adirondacks, Leah has a rich history working with animals and insects, and is also a licensed falconer. We loved hearing how Leah’s childhood passion paved the path to her present-day position.

Next up is Stephen White, President of the Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic, CT

Stephen’s passion for maritime history and education melds perfectly for his role at the Mystic Seaport Museum. After a long career in education, he later found a home combining his maritime enthusiasm and his background as an educator. How perfect!
